Scientific Translation Training & Workshops

The Crick Science Entrepreneur Network (CSEN) is a dynamic platform established in 2021 at the Francis Crick Institute, with a mission to foster entrepreneurship within the scientific community. It serves as a nexus for researchers at all career stages, facilitating learning about the translational and commercial potential of their work. CSEN has hosted a variety of events aimed at sharing the experiences of founders of academic spinout companies and scientists who have ventured into innovation, venture capital, or technology transfer fields.

One notable event focused on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), its applications, and societal implications. This event featured expert panels discussing AI's current use in driving innovation across industries and its future societal impact, followed by an open Q&A session, offering early career researchers and entrepreneurs valuable insights into data and AI.

Another significant initiative by CSEN is the Innovation Challenge, a week-long hackathon-style event encouraging entrepreneurial spirit among UK scientists. Participants form teams to devise innovative solutions to key challenges, with the event culminating in presentations to industry experts and investors. The challenge areas have included planetary health, healthy living, and discovery to recovery, aiming to generate sustainable technologies and improve health outcomes.

Through these diverse events, ranging from panel discussions and challenges to networking sessions, CSEN continues to enrich the ecosystem, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among scientists and researchers.
